HIST116S: Sex and Gender in the Age of High Imperialism (Andrews): Selected Books

Books and how to locate them

On the right you can find  examples of books related to the topic of your course.  There are many more available at SCU.    To find more books related to your own topic, you can use OSCAR.

OSCAR is the online catalog for Santa Clara University. It includes all the books in our collection as well as other materials such as videos, DVDs, periodicals, and government documents.

Go to OSCAR and enter keywords describing your topic.  For example,

 British Empire and women

Empire and sexuality

A Few Tips:

  • An asterisk * at the end of a word, for example imperial*, will pick up different endings such as imperialism.
  • You can also use synonyms or related terms.  For example you can use Women or Gender
  •  Some books are located in the Main Stacks on the lower level of the library.  Other books are in the Automated Retrieval System (ARS). Use OSCAR to request these books from the ARS.

Interlibrary Loan

If you search OSCAR for a particular title and find out that Santa Clara doesn't own the book you are interested in, you can use:

LINK+, a service which allows students and faculty to borrow materials from member libraries at several other colleges and public libraries, provided that those materials are not available at the SCU libraries.  Books borrowed through LINK+ should be available within 3 days.
