Cosmology & Controversy

Hubble: galaxy

"Cosmology is the study of the nature and development of the universe as a whole. Cosmological theories can be found in the most ancient texts, and the debate about the extent, origin, and fate of the cosmos continues today.

"In this course, we will focus on cosmological theories and controversies from a variety of cultures and historical periods. We will come to see that the stakes in such controversies involve more than developing an accurate model and history of the universe; these conceptions are inextricably bound to arguments about the nature and status of God, religion, and humanity."
