ENGL 2A - Animal / HUMAN / Machine (Burnham): Finding Books

What about Interlibrary Loan?

You can usually request any book our library doesn't have via Link + (interlibrary loan service for books).  Unfortunately, because most library buildings are closed this quarter, this service IS NOT AVAILABLE.

If you have any problems locating books on your topic, don't hesitate to contact me.  I can help!

HOW TO FIND E-BOOKS

Because this is an online class and you don't have access to the SCU physical library this quarter, you should concentrate on finding e-books only.  Here's how to do it.  Go to the library home page (www.scu.edu/library).   Click on the "Streaming Videos/eBooks" tab at the top.  In the e-Books search box, enter keywords describing your topic.  For example, just enter:  ANIMAL HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS in the search box to retrieve several books on the topic.

A Few Tips

  • To access the full text of the eBooks, just click on the link in the record.
  • You will be asked to authenticate by entering your SCU Id and Password
  • When you find a book that sounds promising, go through the table of contents carefully to select the most relevant chapters for your topic.
  • You can read the book online and you can usually download a few chapters.  However, the actual number of pages you can download or print is not consistent among publishers.
