Finding Data and Statistics Relating to Your Issue

Data and statistics can be useful in finding quantitative and qualitative information about a particular social issue. Below are some suggested starting sources that may be relevant to your issue areas. 

You can also search on Google for other sources of (neighborhood, city, county, state) data in the topic area you are studying.  Searching for your keyword and DATA or STATISTICS might help you find sources.  Doing an advanced Google search and limiting the search to ".org" or ".ca.gov" is also a good strategy (the librarian will show you how to do so on the 26th!).

1: Physical Environment

  • Land use (such as access to parks, natural areas, and trails)
  • Foreclosures, evictions, and code enforcement actions
  • Brainstorm other topics that might indicate aspects of the physical environment

  • Gentrification
  • Specific health issues or diseases
  • Specific health and wellness topics (such as physical activity)
