ENGL 2A: Critical Thinking & Writing (Krane)

Workshop Slides

Activity 1: Find Sources

1. Using at least 2 strategies on the Newspapers & Magazines tab, find at least 4 sources that you think are relevant to your research.

2. Choose 1 and post it to the Padlet below. Write a brief annotation answering the following questions:

  • How did you find this source? (Which strategies did you use?)
  • Why do you think this source is relevant to your research?

Activity 2: Evaluate a Source

In pairs, evaluate the source you posted.

Write a comment answering the following questions below your source on the Padlet board:

  • How credible do you think the source is and why?
  • What indicators of credibility did you find (or not find) when evaluating the source?

Activity 3: Re-search and Reflect

Maybe your source didn't seem all that credible, after evaluation. Or maybe you realized you are missing some perspectives in the sources you have so far. Or maybe you feel good about what you've found, but want to move into reading and annotating.

The rest of class is for you to make progress on your own, with support from your librarian and professor.
