ENGL 1A/2A: California Dreams & Reality (Judnick)

Using Images

You will be using images in your projects. Many of the sources listed under the tab "California History" here include images. If you use these sources, as opposed to a general Google Image search, you can be more certain of what you are looking at, AND, you will get the information you need to properly caption and cite it! Below are a few examples of how to cite images taken from various sources. Keep in mind that the formatting here, indenting and such, is off a bit because of limitations in this libguide.

Example of using photo from a Life Magazine story.

Caption the photo identifying the article it comes from something like this:

Streetcar Apartments will be built by those contractors who, by pulling two cars together, will make four two-room apartments which will rent for $25 to $32.50 (“California Boom” , p. 33)

Then add the source to your Work Cited:

“California Boom: A Wave of New Industries Follows the Great Westward Wave of New Population.” Life, June 10, 1946, pp. 31-36.
