Finding Public Health Data and Statistics

This is the starting point for health statistics form the CDC. You can search for data by topic and explore other tools.

Search or select a state and a county to see a summary report of the health in that community. Data comes from multiple sources. Counties are ranked by "Health Outcomes" (actual health status) and by "Health Factors" (anything that affects health outcomes). Click on a specific item to see the source of that data. GHDx is a comprehensive catalog of surveys, censuses, vital statistics, and other health-related data.

The NCHS is the nation's principal health statistics agency. It is a unit of the CDC. The NCHS homepage is also a central point for health statistics browsable by topic, links to surveys, publications, and other online tools.

DHHS is the umbrella agency under which most national health data and statistics programs operate. These include the CDC, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), among others.

The BRFSS consists of a series of state based household surveys conducted by state health departments with technical assistance and support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
