Chemical engineer and inventor Dr. Mária Telkes was known as America’s “Sun Queen.” After training as a chemist in her native Hungary, Telkes immigrated to the United States, where she devoted her life to advancing the science of solar energy. In 1964, the 63-year-old Telkes was still hard at work when she was invited to speak at the First International Conference of Women Engineers and Scientists.
