Rome's Legacy

FINDING INFORMATION ON ROME'S LEGACY TO WESTERN CIVILIZATION

Discussion of Rome's wide-reaching legacy to Western civilization can be found in books by searching in OSCAR, the library's catalog, under the following subjects:

Rome -- Civilization -- Influence

Civilization, Classical -- Influence

Civilization, Western -- Roman influences

Civilization, Modern -- Roman influences

Europe -- Civilization -- Roman influences

In addition, searching the words "Roman influences"  alone will bring up many areas of influence with a narrower focus, such as "Art, Renaissance -- Roman influences," "English literature -- Roman influences," "Law -- Louisiana -- Roman influences," and so forth.

Finally, searching for books on a specific field to which the Romans made major contributions will often turn up historical surveys that discuss their achievements and their influence in later times.  For example,  books on "Aqueducts -- Italy -- Rome" and "Water supply -- Italy -- Rome" can lead to more general surveys on "Water-supply engineering -- History."
