Tips for Finding Book Sources using the SCU Library Catalog, OSCAR

  • Go to OSCAR and run a SUBJECT search for the author in the format LAST NAME, FIRST NAME (e.g. Atwood, Margaret)
  • Some of the SUBJECTS you'll find when searching for Atwood, Margaret are:
    • Atwood Margaret 1939 -- This will include items that are about Margaret Atwood--her life, etc.
    • Atwood Margaret 1939 Criticism And Interpretation -- The items in the catalog that are tagged with this subject are going to be a goldmine for you! Be sure to look for works that specifically mention Oryx and Crake. Check the Table of Contents and/or Index.  Literary Criticism is "the art or practice of judging and commenting on the qualities and character of literary works." **
  • If you do a simple search for "orxy and crake" (with quotes), you will find books that mention the novel, perhaps with literary criticism - for this novel, this is very effective. Selected results are below.
