Although excellent .org, .com, .net sites exist, use the search engine's Advanced Search to get more
reliable results by limiting the domain name to .gov or .edu -- or use Google Scholar.

- California Department of Water ResourcesDetailed data on state's surface and ground water. Top sites (left sidebar) has Interagency Ecological Program that leads to research papers. Also Browse Topics tab at top.
- Lake Tahoe WatershedEPA's Lake Tahoe site offers an overview, links to Lake Tahoe TMDL at upper right and links to more resources in the Climate Change section.
- San Francisco Estuary Institute (SFEI)SFEI scientists, environmentalists, local governments, and industries, study, help manage, and protect the San Francisco Estuary. Wetland Tracker has information on specific projects.
- Santa Clara Valley Water DistrictUnder the Services tab: clean water, healthy creeks and ecosystems, technical information, etc. Newsroom tab: publications offer info on water quality, water supply, groundwater and more. Newsroom also has info on the Water District's library and its YouTube channel.
- State of San Francisco Bay Report 2011SFEI partnered with scientists to produce this "science-based assessment of the health of San Francisco Bay."
- EPA: WaterEnvironmental Protection Agency's water topics include: drinking water, pollution, contaminants, laws, "Our Waters" (water by type: groundwater, wetlands, etc.). See Climate Change under Science & Technology tab. See region-specific water links at bottom of page.
- USGS Water Resources of the United StatesU.S Geologic Service's water topic areas include rivers/lakes, groundwater, pollution, water use, flood/droughts, etc.
- AqueductMeasuring and Mapping Water Risk: this World Resources Institute site has an interactive Water Risk Atlas, a blog with articles on global water risk, and background information.
- IPCC: WaterIPPC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), a premier climate-change organization, has a full report on climate change and water. IPCC Home > Publications & Data > Technical Papers > "Climate Change and Water," 2008.
- The World's WaterPDF chapters from the most recent volume of The World's Water, plus supplemental information: water data, water conflict maps, etc. From the Pacific Institute, which provides info and resources to protect/preserve the world's fresh water.
