You will learn just enough Python to help you get started, as well as explore open datasets, and practice making decisions from data. Learning Commons, Room 203 - Disaggregating U.S. Latinx Health Data: Implications for Health EquityPresenter: Vanessa Errisuriz, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health
Good data advances health equity. The first part of this workshop provides a critical look at how researchers disaggregate mortality data among U.S. Latinxs by various social determinants of health (e.g., ethnicity, race, place). Spoiler alert! – Few researchers do this, and it’s a problem when we think about how the data we collect informs health programming, interventions, and policies. The second part of this workshop offers a hands-on experience. You will learn how to navigate and disaggregate data using a few common data visualization tools and databases used to look at both national- and state-level data.

This workshop will show you how to use reverse image searches to research photos or other images online. When you find a photo online how do you know where it came from? How do you know if it is authentic? Have you ever found a photo or a drawing and wanted to identify it? Reverse image searches are a good first step in finding out more about an image–whether it is one from the internet or a photo of something that you want to identify. This workshop will help you learn different techniques and applications for searching with image files.
