Learning Outcomes

  • Plan & execute a search strategy, refining needs and modifying your search based on initial results

  • Evaluate sources for relevance & purpose (alignment with a BEAM category) in order to select sources for specific purposes in your assignment

  • Identify sources that are “in conversation” with other sources so that you may recognize that you are entering into an ongoing conversation, not a finished conversation

At the end of this tutorial, you will be able to:

  • Understand the BEAM method
  • Evaluate sources for relevance and purpose
  • Select sources for purpose of your assignment

Evaluating Scholarly Resources Online Tutorial

At the end of this tutorial, you will be able to:

  • Identifies and selects keywords and phrases to use for appropriate searching
  • Differentiate between scholarly and popular sources
  • Evaluates the quality of the information retrieved using the CRAAP test (currency, relevance, authority, accuracy, purpose)
