About the Retreat

Critical IL and Student Learning: A Retreat for Library Staff

August 30-31, 2022 in SCDI 3115

This year’s retreat supports the development of information literacy program learning outcomes with its focus on critical information literacy applied to student learning. We will engage in activities before and during the retreat that will help us consider what that might look like across the disciplines and within the ACRL Framework.

Learning Outcome 1: Set teaching intentions for the academic year

Learning Outcome 2: Articulate ways to integrate social justice and critical information literacy into learning outcomes

Learning Outcome 3: Share and receive feedback on an instructional tool, lesson plan, or idea

Homework Before Retreat

Before Tuesday, August 30, please complete the following:

  1. Sign up for a time slot for the teaching show and tell
  2. Reflect on the following prompt. We will engage in an activity drawing on your reflection.
    • Looking back on the 21-22 academic year, what was your instruction high and what was your instruction low?
    • Looking towards the 22-23 academic year, what words of wisdom, focus, or growth do you want to give yourself in regard to instruction?
  3. Identify a special place on campus you would like to share with the group, and what about it you would like to share. This could be a place you've had fun, a place you've found solace or beauty, a place you had an interesting experience, or just a place that offers a cool service or history you want to share. We will use these locations for our Crowdsourced Team Building Tour on Tuesday afternoon.
    • Send Kelci your chosen location for inclusion on a Google Map.
  4. Complete this worksheet, which asks you six questions about program learning outcomes and intentional instruction. The master folder has a worksheet for each of you by name, work on it there or make a copy.
