Newspaper Resources
Newspapers are a great way to keep in touch with areas of the world and to get different perspectives on topics. The University Library offers access to a wide range of newspapers on the local, national, and international levels.
Individual Newspapers
- Mercury News Historical and Current Collection This link opens in a new windowProvides full-image newspaper pages from 1900 to present, the full text of the electronic edition of record of the newspaper from 1985 to the present, and web edition articles from 2007 to present. Full-image newspaper pages of the Evening News from 1884 to 1983 are also included. Current content also available through Mercury News (MercuryNews.com).

These databases provide access to local, national, and international newspapers. Most sources are in English; others are in languages that utilize the Latin alphabet.
- Access World News Research Collection This link opens in a new windowIncludes full-text articles from 600 U.S. newspapers and over 700 international newspapers. Coverage varies, some newspapers going back as far as 1977.
- Factiva This link opens in a new windowAccess to thousands of full-text business publications including newspapers, newswires, journals, magazines, and trade publications. Also includes company and financial information.
- National Newspaper Index This link opens in a new windowNow known as InfoTrac Newsstand, this resource provides full-text access to more than 1,100 major U.S. regional, national and local newspapers as well as leading titles from around the world. It also includes thousands of images, radio and TV broadcasts and transcripts. Time coverage varies by title, with some going back to the early 80s. It includes the New York Times from 1985 to the present.
- Newspaper Source This link opens in a new windowProvides selected full text coverage for more than 240 newspapers and other sources. This collection includes cover-to-cover full text for USA Today, The Christian Science Monitor and The Times (London) and full text transcripts from Face the Nation, CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, 60 Minutes, O'Reilly Factor, Hannity & Colmes, National Public Radio, etc. Dates of coverage vary.
