Generative AI Resources for Faculty

Campus Wide Resource

In Spring 2025, Academic Technology announced that the campus had finalized a contract with Google to allow SCU affiliates to utilize Google Gemini and NotebookLM.

Under the current contract agreement between SCU and Google, material uploaded to Gemini and NotebookLM such as articles, prompt interactions, etc. will not be used to train the AI systems; however, this does not give users automatic permission to upload copyright protected work into the systems. Please upload responsibly.

Understanding Gemini and NotebookLM

Google Gemini

Similar to ChatGPT, Google Gemini is a ChatBot that users can interact with in a conversational manner and receive answers on a variety of topics. Gemini is able to summarize text, help with brainstorming and assist with coding tasks. According to Google, requests for Gemini to solve or help with coding related questions is quickly growing to be the most popular prompt asked by users.

Additionally, your Gemini subscription gives you access to image generation. In Gemini, describe an image you want the system to create, similar to creating a prompt, and it will render a picture based on your description.

Most users are limited to 1,000 Gemini queries per month.

NotebookLM

NotebookLM was designed by Google Labs to specifically cater toward research needs for users and act as a virtual assistant. You can use NotebookLM to summarize articles, create study guides, brainstorm and more. Additionally, with the new Audio Overview tool, users can listen to articles and documents on the go like a podcast!
