"This course studies social reform and reaction in America during the 1960s and 1970s.  Emphasis is placed on the relationship between various social movements, such as the civil rights movement, the women's movement, the anti-war movement, and the conservative movement.  The focus of the course is on the efforts of previously marginalized groups, such as people of color and women, to participate more fully in civic, public, and cultureal life and on the reaction of others to that effort." Watch a documentary on the sixties to get a "feel" for the period.  Above are two examples:  Berkeley in the 60s and Women of '69: Unboxed.  You can find many more documentaries on KANOPY, a database of streaming videos.
