In this course, students will have an opportunity to design a research project on the course theme, under the direct supervision of a faculty member, that brings together theoretical and research perspectives to support a research question. These projects are intended to represent a culmination of students’ sociological training to date; students will learn to develop workable research questions from their individual interests, situate their questions in existing literature, convey why these questions are important. In planning out how to best contextualize and carry out their proposed projects, students will need to think critically, solve challenging problems, and develop their skills in public speaking, research design, and the review and revision process.
