For more than 20 years, the Dartmouth Atlas Project has documented glaring variations in how medical resources are distributed and used in the United States. The project uses Medicare data to provide information and analysis about national, regional, and local markets, as well as hospitals and their affiliated physicians. This research has helped policymakers, the media, health care analysts and others improve their understanding of our health care system and forms the foundation for many of the ongoing efforts to improve health and health systems across America.

AskCHIS Neighborhood Edition (AskCHIS NE) provides health estimates for California's diverse population at the local level (zip codes and cities). With AskCHIS NE, you can get estimates on top health indicators for your zip code, city, county and legislative district!

This robust federal agency site allows searching by A-Z and by topic, such as Disease & Conditions, Environmental Health. A photo library, publications, science clips--lots of resources.

U.S. Food & Drug Administration has tabs for Food and Food Safety, Vaccines, etc. Button icons for consumers (with links to particular populations), health professionals, researchers.

Under Topics A-Z tab, each topic provides an overview, data, national snapshot, etc. Topics include adolescent/young adult health, cancer, heart disease, HIV, and many more. Look for references at the bottom of pages.

Search IHS by searchbox, A-Z, medical programs, support programs, etc. Support Programs provides links to health education, Indian health statistics, and more.

From National Institutes of Health and National Library of Medicine, MedlinePlus offers a broad array of health information. Health Topics tab lists categories such as Disorders & Conditions, Demographic Groups, Body Systems. Includes informative videos, a dictionary, and more.

Mouse over "What We Do" to see global health topics as well as maternal & child health, nutrition, water and hygiene, and more.

Under Health Information: Disease & Conditions, Healthy Living, expert blogs. Under For Medical Professionals, the print publications are free pdfs, although Mayo Clinic-centric.

Focused on health and health care, RWJF has a full range of topics, A-Z. The research briefs are often overview of a subject with lists of useful references at the end.

UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) has topic links to Nutrition, Immunization, etc. Find publications and reports under Resources.
