In this course, we will examine the social and biological aspects of human growth, development, and sexuality. We will consider the way various cultural, economic, and political factors influence norms of sexual behavior and human development. Specifically, we will be discussing views of identity, reproduction, and sexual activity throughout the life cycle within the context of power and inequality. We will also critically examine important and relevant topics such as gender identity, gender variance cross culturally, sexual orientation and variation, sexual behavior in adolescence and in later life, gender based violence, and reproductive health through the lens of state violence and stigma.
