Organizing your Research: An Introduction to Zotero

Description: Want to learn how to organize articles you find in your research and create bibliographies with a single click? In this session, you’ll learn about the free, open-source citation manager, Zotero. This introductory session is perfect for anyone new to citation managers or with limited experience with Zotero. The session will be helpful for anyone wanting to organize their research, and will be especially useful for Capstone students, grad students, and others embarking on larger research projects. Note: For best results, bring a laptop to this session. Attendees without one can still learn how to use Zotero online on one of the in-room computers.


What is Data?: Exploring and understanding what data it is and where to find it

Description: In this workshop, you will learn about the different types of data, who collects it, and why. Hands-on activities will explore open source datasets that you can search for free, and some of the many subscription datasets you can access through the library. We will also discuss how we each create data everyday, intentionally or not.

Data literacy for beginners: How to find data and decide whether to trust it

Description: In this workshop, you will learn about the data lifecycle, and dive deeper into the open source and subscription datasets available to you through the Library. At the center of our inquiry will be hands-on activities to explore how to evaluate a dataset to decide if it is trustworthy, and how to use data to answer your questions. Finally we will consider current threats to the accuracy of government datasets, and where this information is being safeguarded.
