FINDING BOOKS
You can find many good books about fashion and clothing by browsing in the library catalog by topic and typing "clothing and dress" or "fashion." To find books on specific articles of clothing, type the name of the garment (for example, "shoes" or "hijab"). If you are looking for books on what people wore at certain times or in particular places, type "costume." You will then be able to browse through a large selection of books organized by their specific subject matter (such as "Costume - United States - History" or "Costume - African Americans - Southern states").
If you do not find books on your topic this way, search in the library catalog and try typing in various ways of describing your topic. Once you find some books that look like what you want, click on the Subjects links that appear in the full records for those books, and you will probably find even more books on the same topic.
Your results will probably include printed books that can be found in the library building, as well as electronic books that can be read online. You can tell which books are printed books because a location in the building is indicated as part of its record. E-books have no physical location indicated, and the words "Electronic" and "eBook" usually appear at the bottom of the record in your list of results. Click on the links above those words to read the book online.
