At different times in its history the office has been called the Prefect of Studies, the Dean of the Faculties, Academic Vice President, and Vice President of Academic Affairs. The office was renamed the Office of the Provost in 1997. The Provost is the chief academic officer and is responsible for all educational programs and offerings of the University, academic policies, and faculty personnel. The position is to ensure that all the educational programs and offerings reflected the University's mission and values.
