Popular Newspapers and Magazines at SCU

The University Library subscribes to many popular newspapers and magazines through various sources. This guide will highlight some of our most popular resources and show you how to find more.

New York Times (NYTimes.com)

Creating an Account through the Library

Follow the instructions below to sign up for a New York Times Academic Pass, which provides complimentary access to NYTimes.com and eligible NYT apps.

  • Visit AccessNYT.com
  • Under Find School... Search for and Select "Santa Clara University - Santa Clara, CA"

You will be redirected to the New York Times Academic Pass registration page.

  • If you don't already have a NYTimes.com account: Click Create Account and complete the fields using your @scu.edu email account
    • If you already have an Existing NYTimes.com Account and/or are renewing your Academic Pass: Click the Already have an account? Log in here >> link to log into your account
  • A verification email will be sent to the email address provided, you must verify your email by clicking the link in the email to complete the sign up process
  • After confirming your email address an Academic Pass will be added to your account enabling unlimited to access NYTimes.com when logging into your account

NYT Mobile Apps

The NYT app is free to download and install. Visit the relevant App Store on your device to get access.

Please note that our subscription does not currently include access to premium apps, which includes the cooking and crossword apps. NYT apps are also not supported on all devices.

The WSJ

Instructions for creating your WSJ.com account

To activate your library-sponsored WSJ.com account:

  • Navigate to https://wsj.com/SantaClara
  • Create your account by selecting the appropriate account type and entering your name, graduation month/year (if a student), SCU email address, and password. A confirmation email will be sent to your SCU email address.
  • Open the confirmation email, click "Start Reading," and then sign in at the Wall Street Journal's website.
  • Important: Select "Send verification email" when prompted.
  • Verify your email and sign in at wsj.com. If set up was completed successfully, you should see your name in the upper right-hand corner of the website.

Sign up for Access through the Library

Follow the instructions below to sign up for access to The Economist through the University Library.

  • Visit sign-up link
  • Enter your name, SCU email address, a strong password, and click the "Create account" button:

    Create your account. Access The Economist on any device and receive our weekly newsletter.
     
  • You will receive the following confirmation message. You must verify your email address to ensure access.

    You've been given a subscription to The Economist
     
  • Locate the verification email and click the "Verify" button:

  • When your email address has been verified, you will receive the following message:
    Your details have been verified
     
  • Use your account to log in at Economist.com, through the iOS App, or through the Android App
